W. Watson & Sons Ltd "Service" microscope, London, serial number 62197. A quality British scientific instrument dating from the mid-20th century, likely produced during the 1940s. Watson microscopes were widely used in schools, laboratories and medical settings and remain highly regarded for their robust construction and optical quality.

Finished in black enamel with polished metal fittings, this example retains its original period appearance and displays beautifully. The microscope features rack and pinion focusing, rotating objective turret and mirror illumination system. Good working order.

The microscope shows age-related cosmetic wear and losses to the painted finish consistent with decades of use. It remains an attractive decorative object as well as a usable vintage scientific instrument. Ideal for collectors of scientific equipment, dark academia interiors, cabinet of curiosities displays, studies and libraries.

A classic British microscope from one of the country's most respected makers.
