An exceptional pair of antique Indian brass vases dating to the 1920s, richly decorated with intricate repoussé floral and foliate engraving and dramatic entwined cobra-form handles. The highly stylised serpent handles rise elegantly above the rims and coil outward from the body of each vase, giving the pieces a wonderfully theatrical and sculptural presence.
The bodies are densely worked with scrolling floral motifs and finely chased ornament in the Anglo-Indian tradition, while the pierced rims and elongated baluster forms add to their exotic revival character. The combination of ornate surface decoration and striking zoomorphic handles makes these especially decorative pieces with strong maximalist appeal.
Beautifully suited to eclectic, bohemian, dark maximalist or colonial-inspired interiors, these display wonderfully on a mantelpiece, cabinet or console table. The rich aged brass patina gives the pair real depth and atmosphere.
Both remain in good antique condition with age-related wear and patina consistent with age and use. Minor surface irregularities and historic wear visible throughout, all contributing to their authentic character.
