A beautiful antique brass field microscope by Aitchison & Co, Opticians to H.M. Government, London, housed in its original mahogany storage case. A wonderfully sculptural scientific instrument with a rich aged brass patina and elegant engraved detailing, dating to the late Victorian period.
The microscope has a compact portable form typical of travelling or field microscopes of the era, with extending tube and adjustable mirror beneath the stage. The engraving for Aitchison & Co remains clearly visible and adds excellent decorative and historical appeal. The original fitted mahogany case is also present, with lovely aged colour and simple brass hinges.
An excellent decorative piece for a study, cabinet of curiosities, dark academia interior or collector of antique scientific instruments. Displays beautifully and has strong Victorian apothecary and old laboratory aesthetic appeal.
Condition is good antique condition overall with age-related wear, surface marks and patina consistent with age. Good working order.
