A beautifully timeworn early 20th century carbide lamp by Jos Lucas of Birmingham, designed for use on bicycles or early motor vehicles. This is the firm’s iconic “King of the Road” model, a robust multi-lens lamp with a fuel chamber and removable burner still intact. The worn black enamel finish, aged nickel hardware, and well-handled surface give it a fantastic industrial patina. The front lens door still opens and closes neatly, and the inner workings are present though untested. An evocative piece of early lighting design—ideal for display in a steampunk interior or for collectors of early cycling or motoring ephemera. Stamped to the base and side with maker's details.

Measures approx. 9.5" high (24 cm) including the handle. Wear and surface oxidation consistent with age and use.

The side lens glass is missing and it looks as though it may have been modified to use bulbs as there is a bulb holder on the inside and back, but no trace of any wiring.
