This original Japanese woodblock print by the celebrated Meiji-period artist Ogata Gekkō (1859–1920) depicts a graceful woman carrying a traditional wagasa umbrella within a tranquil garden landscape amongst flowering irises. Titled Irises Showing Their Beauty, the composition exemplifies Gekkō's refined approach to bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), combining delicate colouration, elegant draftsmanship, and a distinctly poetic atmosphere.

Gekkō was one of Japan's most important late nineteenth-century artists and gained international recognition during his lifetime. His works are represented in major museum collections worldwide and are increasingly sought after by collectors of Japanese art and woodblock prints.

This example retains its original printed signature and seal and is presented in an older frame. The print displays age-related creasing, rippling, toning, and wear visible throughout, all of which are shown in the photographs. The print has not been removed from the frame for inspection. Despite the condition issues, it remains an attractive and authentic period impression by a highly regarded Japanese artist.

A wonderful addition to a collection of Japanese art, ukiyo-e prints, Meiji-period antiques, or interiors inspired by Japandi, wabi-sabi, and East Asian aesthetics.
